DOTC PERPETUAL TROPHIES

DOTC awards to club members six perpetual trophies steeped in club history at the club’s annual End of Training Year Picnic for a variety of achievements. The award categories are described below along with a picture of the six trophies from the 2003 Picnic. The winner of each trophy takes it home for proud display over the year and returns it to the club just prior to the next picnic. In return, the club presents the each winner with a small replacement trophy to commemorate their achievement.

THE WHITEHOUSE WALKER - First awarded in 1941. It was donated to DOTC by Mrs. Helene Whitehouse Walker and her Obedience Test Club. Mrs. Walker, who was the founder of AKC Obedience, judged our Trial that year. This trophy is presented annually to the team that wins first place in the most advanced class at the End of Year Match. (4 above )

THE MONSTER - First awarded in 1942. There is no documentation nor does anyone seem to know who donated it to the club. Although the trophy is inscribed "Most Obedient Dog," it is now presented as an all around good sportsmanship award to the club member whose contributions and accomplishments have been outstanding. THE GRETCHEN MEMORIAL - Given in 1950 by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chubb in honor of their Doberman Pinscher, Gretchen. It is awarded to the team who started Basic within the last 14 months and has made the most progress. The handler must have never trained a dog before. (3 above )
